Last Tournament Highlights
Yeah, the last tournament was in November, at Apache Lake. While I learn how to post that info here, I’ll leave the Martinez results posted so Nick and Tim can have a few more weeks of fame. Thx, TBJ, Secretary in Training
Date: October 17, 2025
Location: Martinez Lake, Arizona
Martinez Lake once again proved to be a challenging but rewarding battleground for Midweek Bass Anglers. Under warm fall conditions, anglers faced long stretches between bites, with many relying on persistence, timing, and a few critical last-minute catches to fill their limits. Despite the grind, quality fish were caught, with several teams capitalizing on subtle patterns around submerged grass and deeper current seams.
Top Finishers
1st Place – Nick Teschler & Tim Jones – 17.51 lbs (Big Fish 5.35 lbs)
Teschler and Jones earned the win with a patient swimbait bite that produced early and late in the day. A white MagDraft swimbait accounted for their biggest fish, including a 4.14-pound kicker landed just minutes before weigh-in. Complementing the swimbait presentation, a free-rigged Berkley Gill plastic added key fish throughout the day. The team caught just six bass total but made every bite count—an impressive feat on a tough Martinez fishery.
2nd Place – Steve Grier & Jeff Beall – 15.93 lbs (Big Fish 4.16 lbs)
Grier and Beall turned a difficult pre-fish into a tournament success by adjusting from shallow reeds to deeper grass and points in 8–13 feet of water. The pair worked a mix of Texas-rigged green pumpkin grubs, Carolina-rigged Brush Hogs, and weedless Ned rigs. Their persistence paid off with a dramatic last-minute flurry at Ferguson Lake, boating two culling fish in the final 20 minutes to jump into second place.
3rd Place – Bill Briggs & Tim Higgins – 12.22 lbs (Big Fish 3.46 lbs)
Though no report was provided, their consistent limit secured a strong third-place finish in a field that saw many teams struggle to connect with quality bites.

How Midweek’sTournaments Work
Midweek holds monthly Draw Team tournaments at desert lakes in Arizona. Our tournaments are competitive, but the competition is friendly. They offer members more than just a chance to showcase and improve their angling skills by sharing ideas and techniques. They are opportunities to build lasting friendships.
What’s a Draw Tournament? It’s a pro-am style event in which Boaters and Co-Anglers are paired for the tournament. This enables anglers to fish with someone else each month. The paired anglers collaborate to find and catch a limit of bass, which is five in cooler months and three in hotter months. Each Team shares Total Weight for their bass, the weight of their biggest bass and the weight of their Goon Fish—which is any fish other than a largemouth or smallmouth bass.
The Draw Team format fosters a sense of camaraderie among participants. It encourages open exchange of information on fishing techniques between Team members and throughout the Club. It creates asupportive, collaborative environment in which anglers can learn from one another and form lasting friendships.
Anglers who are passionate about bass fishing often have limited opportunities to connect with others who share their enthusiasm. Joining Midweek guarantees that you will meet anglers who share your passion for bass fishing. Whether you're new to the Southwest and eager to explore its fishing waters, or just starting to delve into tournament-style fishing, Midweek offers an excellent opportunity to learn and help grow the sport.
Angler of the Year Points
The "Angler of the Year" points system is a significant component of the Club's tournaments. It is designed to recognize and reward consistent performance throughout the year. Anglers earn points based on their tournament results. The angler with the highest accumulated points at the end of the year (after dropping their two lower scores) earns the prestigious title of "Angler of the Year." This accolade is a testament to their skill, dedication and performance over the course of the tournament year.
Tournament Rules
Midweek’s Tournament Rules define how these events are conducted. They dictate the process of drawing Boaters and Co-Anglers, accumulating points for "Angler of the Year," and compliance with all boating and fishing rules and regulations for the waters fished.

Boat Owner and Co-Angler Etiquette
In shared-boat fishing, or any kind of fishing, cooperation among anglers is essential to fun and success. A day shared with a “partner” or another angler who is selfish or uncooperative is painfully long. At the following links, we describe Midweek’s expectations for Boater Etiquette and Co-Angler Etiquette. The same approaches should be used every time we fish, not just when we share a boat in a tournament.
We’ve all experienced jerks on the water. They make on-the-water experiences much less enjoyable, and sometimes very unsafe. Nobody needs that, so let’s not be jerks. Always practice good boating and fishing etiquette. Be a good role model for other anglers, even when you think nobody is watching.
In Midweek, a mandatory element of Co-Angler etiquette is to give their Boater money to help cover the boat’s operating expenses for each tournament. These fees are fixed for each water fished. Co-Anglers are expected to pay their Boater while prefishing or on Tournament Day before the boat is launched. Failure to pay can result in membership being revoked.
Monthly Tournaments
Midweek holds monthly bass tournaments, typically on the third Wednesday of each month. Why on Wednesdays? It’s simple; waters and ramps are much less crowded on Wednesdays. We enjoy watching ramp riots as much as anyone, but not during our tournaments.
Our annual Tournament Calendar begins in January. It spans 11 monthly tournaments through November, plus a friendly "Grudge Match" in December that allows non-members to participate (and considerjoining the Club). Use the link provided on this website to access our tournament schedule. [Warning: Weather, fires, floods and ramp conditions sometimes force us to change the schedule on short notice.]
Monthly Meetings
To keep our members informed and engaged, Midweek holds meetings at 8 am on the first Wednesday of each month, from January through December. Come early and enjoy breakfast and a little smack talk. The meetings usually last about 90 minutes. The agenda varies, but it always includes greeting new members, payouts for the most recent tournament, Draw results for that month's tournament, a 50:50 Shared Pot and a raffle of items donated by members. Anglers can join, or renew their Membership, and pay Tournament Entry Fees, via this website.
