I've read all these FAQs and I have more questions!!
That’s a good thing, if you’ve also read the entire website. If you haven’t, please read it, carefully. But if you have read it, and you still have questions, please email secretary@midweekbassaz.com. His response might be slow and a bit snarky but, much like Natty Bumpo, he will find you!

What do I need to fish an MWBA Tmx?
The basics are, you must: have a valid AZ fishing license; be at least 18 years old; be an MWBA member (you can join any time of year); pay the tmx entry fee, which automatically enters you into the Random Draw for pairings; attend a Pre-Launch Meeting for each tmx; and comply with all MWBA By-Laws and Tmx Rules. Before launching, Co-Anglers must pay their Boater a specified lake-specific Fair Share Fee. Details for these basics are provided on the website.

Can my friend and I fish as a Team if we both join the Club?
No, unless (1) one of you is a Boater and the other a Co-Angler, (2) the Random Draw assigns you to the same Team, and then (3) no more than twice each year. We mix Teams (Pairs) up for every tournament because most of us have fished clubs and tournament trails that have permanent teams and we prefer the MWBA approach. It fosters friendly competition. The upside? We fish with as many as 11 different anglers each year, renew old friendships and make new ones, and learn more fishing techniques.

I can't attend monthly meetings; can I still participate in Tournaments?
Let’s be honest — You can’t, or you don’t want to? If you truly can’t, you’ll have to keep informed via email and reading the website. If you don’t want to, maybe this Club isn’t for you. We exist to provide Members with opportunities to interact by fishing or socializing with other Members. Our monthly meetings reflect that. Miss them, and you’ll miss an important part of the fun of being a Member. Plus, it’s harder for Members to get to know each other if they only see each other at Tournaments. Finally, clubs are most successful when they have a fully engaged, participating membership. That’s why all Members are expected to keep informed about Club activities, do what’s necessary to participate in Club events, and always comply with MWBA By-Laws and Tournament Rules.

What does it cost to join the Club and fish Tournaments and how are Tournament Teams paired?
The annual membership fee is $40 ($43 if paid online). Our tournament entry fee is $60 ($63 if paid online). Co-Anglers pay their Boater a lake-specific Fair Share Fee to help cover the boat’s operating expenses. You’ll find details about each of these topics elsewhere on the website.
For each Tournament, Teams (a Boater and a Co-Angler) are randomly paired through a computerized draw. We try not to pair Members twice in a year unless all Members have been paired once. To avoid a second pairing, the Tournament Director adjusts pairings as necessary.

I don't own a boat; can I still participate in Tournaments? And what if I don't like the guy with whom I'm paired?
Absolutely! Many Members don’t own boats. A Tournament Team consists of a Boater and a Co-Angler who fish from one boat.
As for being paired with someone you don’t like, suck it up, Buttercup! All MWBA Members are adults and expected to act like adults. You don’t have to like someone to fish with them. Both of you just have to be courteous and communicate well. Who knows? You might even break down the walls that separate you. Fishing has a way of doing that.
-
Is a specific skill level required to join the Club and participate in Tournaments?
No. We welcome anglers of all skill levels, from raw beginners to crusty old veterans. MWBA fosters an environment that promotes members learning from each other and improving their skills, making it a great place for anglers of all skill levels and backgrounds.

What happens in case of adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances on the day of a Tournament?
We prioritize safety. If adverse weather or other circumstances develop before we launch, the Tournament Director will announce in the Pre-Launch Meeting whether the event will be delayed, abbreviated or canceled. If unsafe conditions develop while we’re on the water, Teams must err on the side of caution. Run or hide, whichever is safer. If in doubt, call the Tournament Director. His number and yours will be on the Tournament Pairings List. Keep it handy!
